Speaking of roguelikes, huh? I think I bought Approaching Infinity when it first released on Steam, enthralled by the idea of a sci-fi Trek-ish roguelike. I got a few hours into it but eventually dropped off due to excess work.
I've been meaning to get back into it, specially after seeing you mention the game a few weeks back - guess I might as well do it now!
I can’t recommend it enough. There’s a reason that every time Approaching Infinity gets updated I end up playing it for a not-insignificant amount of time again, and a reason it gets updated as much as it does - the developer has basically stated that it is his dream game too, and every idea he has for how to expand or improve it is going to be his focus for the foreseeable future, rather than trying to spin off into new titles. That said, he has announced a Vampire Survivors-like in the AI setting, which is a compromise I’m fine with.
As much as I like the dev, no, probably not. They're both more for if you've already completed several runs and are looking for extra challenge/customization, and the base game already has multiple difficulties and plenty of ship and starting class options to unlock.

Do you reckon the DLCs are worth getting before exploring the game further?
